Printer is not used much in our condo. We just arrived back after a 2 month absence and printer was on but indicated the above mentioned failure. No paper jams but ink cartridge will not move out to allow removal of ink cartridges.

Hi @rgeisel,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer might be experiencing a mechanical issue with the ink cartridge mechanism. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on again. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can reset the printer's internal components and resolve minor issues.
- Check for Obstructions: Even if there's no visible paper jam, there could still be small pieces of paper or debris blocking the cartridge carriage. Carefully check inside the printer, especially around the cartridge area, and remove any obstructions you find.
- Manually Move the Cartridge: If the ink cartridge is stuck, you may try gently moving it manually. Be very careful not to force it, as this could cause further damage. Refer to your printer's manual for guidance on manually moving the cartridge.
- Reset the Printer: Some HP printers have a reset option in their settings menu. Navigate to the printer's menu on its control panel (if available) or access it through the printer software on your computer. Look for a reset option and follow the prompts to reset the printer to its factory settings.
- Update Firmware/Drivers: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware and drivers installed. Sometimes, outdated firmware or drivers can cause compatibility issues or malfunctions. You can usually update these through the printer's settings menu or by visiting the HP website.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
