4 hours is not that long a time. Battery should not run down that quick.
Try the following to save power
Disable Bluetooth
Disable WiFi unless you need to be online
Prevent the CPU from running in turbo mode by setting %processor utilization to under %100
set all the %100 to a smaller value, even %50 is probably OK.
Prepare battery for long usage:
Run a battery calibration (about once every 3-4 months)
Charge battery fully before class.
Battery should last about 5 years unless a gaming laptop.
