Can a  HP 17-cn3004ca Laptop be connected to an HP Pavilion 23,  and if so can the HP Pavilion 23 be used as  an external monitor or 2nd screen if needed. The HP Pavilion as no HDMI port,  just USB.

Then the answer is NO -- because the USB port will not accept INPUT video signals, only an HDMI Input port will do that.
