If the printer is not waking up the problem can be the network or the computer not sending a wakeup message. 

Occasionally when waking up the printer will get a different IP address than it has before and the PC will lose contact.

 

A quick fix is to set the sleep to off or never.

Some printer cannot have sleep turned off.  In this case you can either

 

1 - Log into the modem and set the IP address of the printer as fixed.  This is actually required if you have a flex system (multiple WiFi boosters)

 

2 - In the PC use the hostname of the printer instead of its IP address. The hostname is usually shown in the printers network report.
